How to Import and Export Contacts in Yahoo Mail

With Yahoo mail you can save up to 5000 contacts all in one place. Yahoo mail lets you to do this by allowing you to import contacts from other linked email accounts or from saved files. Yahoo also allows you to export your yahoo contacts as well. In this post am going to talk about how to import and export contacts in Yahoo Mail. Let’s proceed.

How to Import Contacts in Yahoo Mail

Go to www.yahoomail.com and Sign in.

Click on the “Contact” Tab (the icon is at the top left side of your yahoo platform).

Click on “Import Contacts”.

Now you will be showed a variety of accounts that you can import your contacts from; Facebook, google, outlook, other email addresses and you can even upload a .csv or .vcf file formats. For the purposes of this tutorial, I will import contacts from Facebook and supported email providers.

So to import contacts from my Facebook account I will click on the “Import” tab beside Facebook. Once you click on it, a yahoo contact importer opens on a new window opens.

Here, you will enter your Facebook user email and password and click on “Login”. As soon as you login, and confirmed that you are the account user, you will be redirected to yahoo to confirm your account again. Yahoo automatically goes through and imports the contact details of all your Facebook friends.

How to Import Contacts From Supported Email Providers

Click on “Import” beside “Other Email Address”.

Enter the email address of the account you want to import contacts from and click on “Next”. For security reasons, Yahoo will take you to the webmail sign page ( google in my case). Your import will automatically begin after you have provided your username and password there.

How to Export Contacts from Yahoo Mail

To export contacts from Yahoo Mail to other accounts,

Click on the “Contacts” icon.

Click on “Actions”. At the drop down menu, click on “Export”

Choose the format you would like to export your contacts in. Note that contacts from other accounts that you linked to your yahoo account like Facebook cannot be exported. You can export your yahoo contacts in any of the following formats:

Microsoft Outlook
Netscape/Thunderbird
Yahoo CSV
vCard Single File
vCard, Zip of .VCF files

Select your desired format and click on “Export Now”. For this post, am going to pick the Yahoo CSV for which is highly recommended and click on export.

This creates a Csv file that carries all my yahoo contacts in less than one minute. Now I can save this downloaded Csv file on my system or upload it to another email account as back up.
